BMB On Break

It’s time again for a little BMB R&R, especially with the market behaving as bizarrely as it’s been. Maybe if we stop watching it start to behave a little better…

Posting will be very light and variable over the course of this week, but we’ll put up an open thread each market day for our readers to comment on the day’s market activity or to post any interesting links they might run across.

Check the space below for whatever the latest might be during this ‘off’ time, and please visit the various sites in the ‘Links’ and ‘Regular Stops’ for up-to-date market news and analysis.

BMB will be back in full swing by next weekend.

Pickin’ Em - Part II

SPXA50R chart Here’s an updated look at the percentage of S&P 500 stocks that are trading above their 50-day moving averages: BMB first showed you this chart a few weeks back (“You Sure Can Pick ‘Em”). While there hasn’t been a lot of movement in the index itself, the strength of the stocks in the index has faded a bit.

Industry Movers and Shakers

Items of note on the latest industry moves:

  • Only 10 of the 30 industry groups tracked by BMB were up for the week.
  • Housing stocks continue to be strong, and had a great week.
  • Health care industry stocks starting to show up on the ‘best’ list, but the drug stocks still lag.
  • Gold stocks have had a lousy month, but their 8-week performance shows that they really only gave back a little of their gains from the first 4-week period.
