BMB On Break

It’s time again for a little BMB R&R, especially with the market behaving as bizarrely as it’s been. Maybe if we stop watching it start to behave a little better…

Posting will be very light and variable over the course of this week, but we’ll put up an open thread each market day for our readers to comment on the day’s market activity or to post any interesting links they might run across.

Check the space below for whatever the latest might be during this ‘off’ time, and please visit the various sites in the ‘Links’ and ‘Regular Stops’ for up-to-date market news and analysis.

BMB will be back in full swing by next weekend.

Internet Error - Gains Not Found

The big-name internet stocks were nowhere to be found this past week, being left out of the advances enjoyed by much of the rest of the market.

EBAY chart eBay got hammered after its earning announcement a couple of weeks ago, and has done nothing but trickle downward ever since.
AMZN chart Amazon joined eBay at the bottom of the hill after it reported earnings on Wednesday after the bell. Looking for a bounce - if it comes. eBay certainly hasn’t seen one yet.
YHOO chart Yahoo hasn’t been hit as hard as the others - yet. But YHOO has faced a steady decline since its peak early in December.

Weekend Sector Scan

XLE chart Big week for energy stocks, which have busted out of their trading range.
XLU chart While utilities came in third-best this week, they too have broken out. If you’re looking to put money into these two areas, you might wait for pullbacks after the big runs they’ve had.
