BMB On Break

It’s time again for a little BMB R&R, especially with the market behaving as bizarrely as it’s been. Maybe if we stop watching it start to behave a little better…

Posting will be very light and variable over the course of this week, but we’ll put up an open thread each market day for our readers to comment on the day’s market activity or to post any interesting links they might run across.

Check the space below for whatever the latest might be during this ‘off’ time, and please visit the various sites in the ‘Links’ and ‘Regular Stops’ for up-to-date market news and analysis.

BMB will be back in full swing by next weekend.

Weekend Sector Scan

Another not-so-hot week in the market, as stocks got our hopes up with a Wednesday rally, only to give it all back on Thursday and Friday. The Dow and the Nasdaq dribbled slightly lower on the week while the S&P gained a little over a point. Still not too much to be encouraged by.

XLE chart On the sector front, energy stocks were the stars again, stopping their correction for now as they bounced strongly off their 50-day MA, finishing the week with a 4.5% gain. It looks like the XLE may have put in a near term low here.
XLU chart Utilities continue to hang in there, despite the expectations of higher interest rates. They’ve stuggled over the past few weeks, but have held in a trading range, but don’t look to be breaking down just yet.
