BMB On Break

It’s time again for a little BMB R&R, especially with the market behaving as bizarrely as it’s been. Maybe if we stop watching it start to behave a little better…

Posting will be very light and variable over the course of this week, but we’ll put up an open thread each market day for our readers to comment on the day’s market activity or to post any interesting links they might run across.

Check the space below for whatever the latest might be during this ‘off’ time, and please visit the various sites in the ‘Links’ and ‘Regular Stops’ for up-to-date market news and analysis.

BMB will be back in full swing by next weekend.

Weekend Sector Scan

XLV chart Health care stocks continue to be some of the best performers (although that’s not saying much so far this year!), and may have finally broken out a bit to move higher. Some areas of health care are doing better than others, with major drugs, biotech, hospitals and HMOs being some of the best.
XLU chart Utilities is the only other sector in the green over the past 8 weeks.
XLF chart Financials have had a nice move off the bottom and appear to have broken their downtrend, although they may be in for a bit of a tough time moving through resistance between 29.50 and 30.50.

Here are this week’s numbers. Note that the best performing sectors for the week are the worst over 8 weeks. That’s the type of thing we’ve been seeing for a while, and none of the sectors have been able to gain much ground.
