BMB On Break

It’s time again for a little BMB R&R, especially with the market behaving as bizarrely as it’s been. Maybe if we stop watching it start to behave a little better…

Posting will be very light and variable over the course of this week, but we’ll put up an open thread each market day for our readers to comment on the day’s market activity or to post any interesting links they might run across.

Check the space below for whatever the latest might be during this ‘off’ time, and please visit the various sites in the ‘Links’ and ‘Regular Stops’ for up-to-date market news and analysis.

BMB will be back in full swing by next weekend.

Weekend Sector Scan

The market, as a whole, has gone virtually nowhere in the last couple of weeks. Energy stocks were the only group to move more than a percent this week, putting in another strong performance.

XLE chart Energy stocks continue to move strongly off their lows, making up a lot of ground lost in the spring, and now hold the top spot in all of the sector performance rankings. I don’t really like those ‘V’ shaped bottoms, but you can’t argue with the price action. I’d love to see a little pullback to actually put in a higher low, and to provide some better entry points on those stocks.
XLU chart Utilities - the sector no one ever talks about - just keep edging up to new highs.
XLK chart The tech rally, which everyone does keep talking about, has been a no-show for a couple of weeks now. But I’m not quite ready to declare it dead yet either. The little ‘flag’ pattern being built here could easily continue to the upside.
XLV chart Health care stocks? They haven’t really cracked yet, but they don’t look all that “healthy” either.
