BMB On Break

It’s time again for a little BMB R&R, especially with the market behaving as bizarrely as it’s been. Maybe if we stop watching it start to behave a little better…

Posting will be very light and variable over the course of this week, but we’ll put up an open thread each market day for our readers to comment on the day’s market activity or to post any interesting links they might run across.

Check the space below for whatever the latest might be during this ‘off’ time, and please visit the various sites in the ‘Links’ and ‘Regular Stops’ for up-to-date market news and analysis.

BMB will be back in full swing by next weekend.

What’s Hot, What’s Not

Items of note on the latest industry moves:

  • Transportation stocks had a nice bounce out of their recent dip.
  • Energy stocks still strong, but the rest of the commodity related stocks (steel, paper, chemicals) are not doing joining in.
  • Brokers and housing stocks still doing well.
  • If you’ve gotta be in health care, it looks like the healthcare payors (HMOs) are the place to be. The drug stocks certainly are not.

Higher Home Prices = Higher Taxes

Homeowners are finding out that increased property values come with an added burden - higher property taxes.

I’ll bet the local governments are enjoying the windfall. And listen for the whining to begin when the property values begin to fall and the cities have to try and do without that extra income again…
