BMB On Break

It’s time again for a little BMB R&R, especially with the market behaving as bizarrely as it’s been. Maybe if we stop watching it start to behave a little better…

Posting will be very light and variable over the course of this week, but we’ll put up an open thread each market day for our readers to comment on the day’s market activity or to post any interesting links they might run across.

Check the space below for whatever the latest might be during this ‘off’ time, and please visit the various sites in the ‘Links’ and ‘Regular Stops’ for up-to-date market news and analysis.

BMB will be back in full swing by next weekend.

Weekend Sector Scan

XLE chart Energy. Not much more to say.
XLU chart Utilities looked like they were in trouble when interest rates took off, but now that rates have receded, the XLU looks like it could resume its move higher.
XLV chart Health care stocks had a good week, but that’s after a lousy month of August.
XLY chart Consumer Discretionary was the only sector to lose ground on the week. The XLY also had a terrible August. It looks as though the market is starting to believe that the consumer might be at the end of his/her rope. Notice the number of large volume spikes on down days over the past month, indicating clear distribution in these stocks. There is support here around 33 — if that doesn’t hold, the XLY could be headed to 32 or worse.
