BMB On Break

It’s time again for a little BMB R&R, especially with the market behaving as bizarrely as it’s been. Maybe if we stop watching it start to behave a little better…

Posting will be very light and variable over the course of this week, but we’ll put up an open thread each market day for our readers to comment on the day’s market activity or to post any interesting links they might run across.

Check the space below for whatever the latest might be during this ‘off’ time, and please visit the various sites in the ‘Links’ and ‘Regular Stops’ for up-to-date market news and analysis.

BMB will be back in full swing by next weekend.

Gulf Refinery Update

I have some good news, and some bad news…

What’s Hot, What’s Not

Items of note on the latest industry moves:

  • Energy stocks were obvious winners on the week.
  • Gold and silver stocks have done very well of late. If the dollar slide continues, gold bullion will likely move higher, but will the mining stocks go with it?
  • Airlines getting hit pretty badly with rising fuel costs. No big surprise there.
  • Computer hardware seems to be the weak spot in tech.
  • Retailers are leading the fall in the consumer discretionary area that we mentioned in yesterday’s sector overview.
  • Steel stocks still strong, but chemicals appear to be a major soft spot in basic materials.
