BMB On Break

It’s time again for a little BMB R&R, especially with the market behaving as bizarrely as it’s been. Maybe if we stop watching it start to behave a little better…

Posting will be very light and variable over the course of this week, but we’ll put up an open thread each market day for our readers to comment on the day’s market activity or to post any interesting links they might run across.

Check the space below for whatever the latest might be during this ‘off’ time, and please visit the various sites in the ‘Links’ and ‘Regular Stops’ for up-to-date market news and analysis.

BMB will be back in full swing by next weekend.

What’s Hot, What’s Not

Items of note on the latest industry moves:

  • Precious metals stocks are running away from the pack. I would expect to see a pullback there soon, maybe a sharp one. That is a pretty tight market, and when those stocks move, they tend to move quickly. Gold bullion has made a nice move, but silver prices haven’t yet followed. But silver stocks did pop nicely at the end of the week (PAAS, SSRI).
  • Energy stocks pulled back a bit this week. They needed to.
  • Airlines and retail: stay away. To borrow a phrase from Gary K., it’s a horror show.
  • I keep hearing how the housing market will get a boost from all of the Katrina rebuilding. That’s not what the housing stocks are telling us, at least not yet. We’ll see who’s right.
