BMB On Break

It’s time again for a little BMB R&R, especially with the market behaving as bizarrely as it’s been. Maybe if we stop watching it start to behave a little better…

Posting will be very light and variable over the course of this week, but we’ll put up an open thread each market day for our readers to comment on the day’s market activity or to post any interesting links they might run across.

Check the space below for whatever the latest might be during this ‘off’ time, and please visit the various sites in the ‘Links’ and ‘Regular Stops’ for up-to-date market news and analysis.

BMB will be back in full swing by next weekend.

Weekend Sector Scan

XLE chart Pretty much a horrible week all around, but energy stocks got the worst of it by far. At this point, the XLE has held support in the 47.50 region, and I would expect a bounce from these oversold levels, but the uptrend and the 50-day moving average have been violated. I’m taking a wait-and-see-what-happens approach to energy at the moment.
XLU chart Utilities are the only stocks to be up over the 8-week period, but they suffered quite a bit of damage this week as well.
XLY chart Despite a bit of a rebound in some retailers and restaurant stocks, Consumer Discretionary is just NOT the place to be.
XLK chart A number of tech stocks are looking like they have topped, and the XLK reflects that.

The numbers as the smoke begins to clear:

Sector Symbol 8 Week % Chg. 4 Week % Chg. 1 Week % Chg. YTD % Chg.
Utilities XLU +1.7 -3.5 -4.0 +15.9
