BMB On Break

It’s time again for a little BMB R&R, especially with the market behaving as bizarrely as it’s been. Maybe if we stop watching it start to behave a little better…

Posting will be very light and variable over the course of this week, but we’ll put up an open thread each market day for our readers to comment on the day’s market activity or to post any interesting links they might run across.

Check the space below for whatever the latest might be during this ‘off’ time, and please visit the various sites in the ‘Links’ and ‘Regular Stops’ for up-to-date market news and analysis.

BMB will be back in full swing by next weekend.

Weekend Sector Scan

XLB chart Basic Materials have worked their way to the top of the heap, but the XLB looks like it could stand to cool off a bit.
XLF chart Financials have pulled back a bit, suffering some ill effects from rising interest rates. The question is now whether the pullback continues or the XLF resumes its uptrend.
XLK chart The XLK performance for the week doesn’t really reflect the big move in the semiconductors - obviously the other tech stocks didn’t do quite as well. Regardless, the XLK is looking a little extended as well.
XLE chart Energy stocks have been sneaking back into the picture, and the XLE is looking pretty attractive here, as it it poised to break out of the ascending triangle formed off the October lows. A move above current levels, if it holds, would be bullish, with the exception of some resistance left above 52.50. Some of the oil services names have already moved to new highs.
