BMB On Break

It’s time again for a little BMB R&R, especially with the market behaving as bizarrely as it’s been. Maybe if we stop watching it start to behave a little better…

Posting will be very light and variable over the course of this week, but we’ll put up an open thread each market day for our readers to comment on the day’s market activity or to post any interesting links they might run across.

Check the space below for whatever the latest might be during this ‘off’ time, and please visit the various sites in the ‘Links’ and ‘Regular Stops’ for up-to-date market news and analysis.

BMB will be back in full swing by next weekend.

ChartWatchers Newsletter

The holiday edition of the ChartWatchers newsletter is up, and this week it seems to be all about gold. Funny how everyone seems to be taking an sudden interest in gold - after the big move has already been made. I feel a correction in the works…

Weekend Sector Scan

XLE chart The XLE did indeed sneak out of that ascending triangle it was in, and is now hovering just above the boundaries. Of all the sectors, I think the energies have the most promise at this point, but there is still some overhead resistance to clear above 52.50.
XLU chart Utilities have been edging their way higher off the lows, and the XLU looks like it’s found some footing in this area, but I’m not getting too excited about the utils just yet.
XLB chart Basic Materials paused this week. The XLB needed to pause, and there’s still plenty of room for pullback.
XLF chart Financials still in consolidation/sideways mode. No harm in that.
XLK chart A bit of a pullback working in the XLK, but nothing to get concerned about at this point. The techs needed a breather too.
