BMB On Break

It’s time again for a little BMB R&R, especially with the market behaving as bizarrely as it’s been. Maybe if we stop watching it start to behave a little better…

Posting will be very light and variable over the course of this week, but we’ll put up an open thread each market day for our readers to comment on the day’s market activity or to post any interesting links they might run across.

Check the space below for whatever the latest might be during this ‘off’ time, and please visit the various sites in the ‘Links’ and ‘Regular Stops’ for up-to-date market news and analysis.

BMB will be back in full swing by next weekend.

Dow Dump

The Dow Industrials index has been performing pretty miserably over the past six trading sessions. What’s been dragging it down? Well, it certainly hasn’t been the work of a single stock - there’s been plenty of blame to go around. Here are some of the worst offenders - symbols AIG, BA, C, DD, GE, INTC, JPM and MMM. And we keep hearing that ‘06 is going to be the year that the large-caps make their comeback…

What’s Hot, What’s Not

Items of note on the latest industry moves:

  • In spite of Friday’s selloff, some groups still did well for the week.
  • Oil services still leading the energy complex.
  • With energy (and energy prices) leading, airlines and transportation has been hurt.
  • Tech and financials took the brunt of the hit this week.
  • The ‘worst’ list is now solid red, and is as bad as we’ve seen it in a while.
