BMB On Break

It’s time again for a little BMB R&R, especially with the market behaving as bizarrely as it’s been. Maybe if we stop watching it start to behave a little better…

Posting will be very light and variable over the course of this week, but we’ll put up an open thread each market day for our readers to comment on the day’s market activity or to post any interesting links they might run across.

Check the space below for whatever the latest might be during this ‘off’ time, and please visit the various sites in the ‘Links’ and ‘Regular Stops’ for up-to-date market news and analysis.

BMB will be back in full swing by next weekend.

Weekend Sector Scan

XLE chart A nasty end to the week left all of the sectors in the red. Energy stocks got hit pretty good, and left the XLE testing support at around 57.
XLB chart Materials stocks pulled back hard, but the chart isn’t in any real danger yet.
XLI chart The Industrials look like they hung in there as best they could under the circumstances.
XLF chart The financials got sent back down to test support at the 33 level.
XLK chart Tech stocks had an awful week, and the XLK looks to be in trouble here. I would expect a bounce of some sort soon, but I’d be avoiding the techs for the moment.
XLV chart Health care had the “best” week of the sectors. That’s not saying much - and hasn’t helped to make the XLV any more attractive just yet.

The numbers after a rather unnerving end to the week:

Energy XLE +5.8 +1.7 -3.6 +12.8
