BMB On Break

It’s time again for a little BMB R&R, especially with the market behaving as bizarrely as it’s been. Maybe if we stop watching it start to behave a little better…

Posting will be very light and variable over the course of this week, but we’ll put up an open thread each market day for our readers to comment on the day’s market activity or to post any interesting links they might run across.

Check the space below for whatever the latest might be during this ‘off’ time, and please visit the various sites in the ‘Links’ and ‘Regular Stops’ for up-to-date market news and analysis.

BMB will be back in full swing by next weekend.

For the People

Scott Wright of Zeal LLC says that the new commodity-based ETFs are providing a great opportunity for investors to participate in the commodity bull market. He also takes a look at the Deutsche Bank Liquid Commodity Index ETF - symbol DBC - and compares it to the popular CRB commodity index.

Weekend Sector Scan

XLU chart Utilities had another good week. If interest rates hold or start heading lower, we could see this move continue. It’s starting to look a little interesting.
XLP chart Consumer Staples still consolidating. I’m not getting too excited about this sector, but if the XLP were to break out higher, I’d have to take a look and see if there was anything real interesting there.
XLE chart Energy stocks are pretty unpredictable at the moment. I’ll watch from a safe distance until they get more organized.
XLV chart Maybe. Just maybe, health care has bottomed out. Too early to call, but the XLV is thinking about turning the corner.
XLK chart Still some work to do to repair the damage in the tech stocks.
