BMB On Break

It’s time again for a little BMB R&R, especially with the market behaving as bizarrely as it’s been. Maybe if we stop watching it start to behave a little better…

Posting will be very light and variable over the course of this week, but we’ll put up an open thread each market day for our readers to comment on the day’s market activity or to post any interesting links they might run across.

Check the space below for whatever the latest might be during this ‘off’ time, and please visit the various sites in the ‘Links’ and ‘Regular Stops’ for up-to-date market news and analysis.

BMB will be back in full swing by next weekend.

Weekend Sector Scan

XLE chart Energy stocks had the ‘best’ week of the nine sector SPDRs - but that isn’t saying much considering only two were in the green. The XLE looks like it’s still biding time here, trying to figure out what to do.
XLU chart Utilities had a nice run, and have now taken a right turn.
XLP chart The Staples were the only other sector, besides energy, in the green for the week. The XLP is still grinding its way higher, but not at a ferocious pace.
XLV chart Health care stocks have pulled back a bit after their big run a few weeks ago.
XLI chart Industrials are finding no love at all of late.

The numbers after a somewhat ’sagging’ week:

Sector Symbol 8 Week % Chg. 4 Week % Chg. 1 Week % Chg. YTD % Chg.
Energy XLE +9.5 +0.6 +0.5 +15.6
Utilities XLU +5.5 +3.7 -0.6 +7.9
Consumer Staples XLP +4.6 +3.5 +0.4 +6.7
